LGBTQ+ Glossary of Terms

Sexual Orientation

Gay: A person who is romantically or attracted only to their same genders.

Queer: A general term that includes everyone and all identities within the LGBTQ+ community.

Lesbian: A woman who is romantically or attracted only to other women.

Bisexual: A person who is romantically or attracted to more than one gender.

Heterosexual: A person attracted to the opposite sex of their own, also known as a straight person.

Asexual: A person who is not romantically or attracted to others very often, if at all.

Questioning: A person who is questioning their sexual identity.

Sexual Fluidity: A person whose sexuality is changing, and not set on a point on the spectrum.

Demisexual: A person feels sexually attracted to someone only after they've developed a close emotional bond with them.

Pansexual: A person whose sexual or romantic attraction is not limited to people of a particular gender identity or sexual orientation.

Gender

Cisgender: When a person feels like their gender matches their biological sex at birth.

Transgender: Denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.

Trans Woman (MTF): A male-to-female trans person.

Trans Man (FTM): A female-to-male trans person.

Non-Binary: A person who does not identify with any gender.

Genderfluid: People who identify as “gender fluid,” are a mix of both genders, and/or may feel more male on some days and more female on others.
