Coronary CT Angiogram (CTA)

A Coronary CT Angiogram (CTA) is a quick and noninvasive test that helps diagnose and manage coronary artery disease. The test is performed in the outpatient setting and uses CT imaging (angiography) to take detailed pictures of the coronary arteries of the heart. IV dye is used to assess for coronary plaque/calcium, which may be obstructing or limiting blood flow. CTA’s can also help diagnose aneurysms and coronary anomalies. The test is done within minutes.

Your provider may order a Coronary CTA if you have been experiencing:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Suspected Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
  • Other abnormal cardiac testing like stress tests

What are the benefits of a Coronary CTA?

A Coronary CTA is less invasive than a standard angiogram, it can be done in a matter of minutes, and does not require sedation. Advancements in medical imaging continue to help specialists improve the way complex conditions are diagnosed and treated. CTA imaging offers many benefits, including:

  • Non-invasive
  • Outpatient Procedure
  • No recovery time needed
  • No sedation is usually required
  • Low radiation
  • State-of-the-art technology

Is there any special preparation needed for a CTA?

If your provider has ordered a CTA, they will review your medical history and discuss any necessary preparation you may need to take. If you have questions, please contact your doctor’s office directly.
