The history of Diner en Blanc (to dine in white) is a concept that began in Paris in 1988. Frenchman Francois Pasquier invited a group of friends to an elegant dinner at the Bois de Boulogne. They were dressed in white so that they were able to find each other. Today, in Paris, diners are required to provide their food, tables, chairs, tablecloths, and decorations. Only a select number of participants who have previously signed up are made privy to the location and they generally converge in an iconic urban location rain or shine. Since 1988, the event has grown to over 85 cities covering six continents.
