GREENSBURG, PA, Feb. 26, 2025 … Independence Health System (IHS) today announced that Lucas Heller, MD, has joined the Endocrinology Department at The Square at Norwin in North Huntingdon. The addition of Dr. Heller marks a geographical expansion of IHS’s comprehensive endocrinology care to the Westmoreland area.
Dr. Heller is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology,
diabetes, and metabolism. Most recently, he served as attending physician in endocrinology/internal medicine in the General Endocrinology Subspecialty Clinic at Heritage Valley Healthcare System for several years. His areas of expertise include general endocrinology, as well as disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary glands, and bone. His areas of particular interest and focus are type II diabetes and osteoporosis.
Dr. Heller earned his MD from West Virginia University and his BA from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his fellowship in endocrinology in UPMC’s Presbyterian-Montefiore’s Division of Endocrinology and his residency in internal medicine at UPMC’s Presbyterian-Montefiore’s Department of Medicine. He is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Allegheny County Medical Society. Dr. Heller is originally from Armstrong County.
“I’m pleased to continue caring for the members of my local community. Having lifelong geographic ties to the region allows me to connect with patients on a more profound level,” said Dr. Heller. “I’m particularly enthusiastic about focusing patient care on shared decision-making. It’s important to make healthcare decisions with patients — not always for patients — when multiple care options are available. Involving patients in the process can be valuable.”
Dr. Heller is accepting new patients aged 18 and older at Excela Square at Norwin, 8775 Norwin Ave, Suite 100, North Huntingdon. To schedule an appointment, call 833-604-7211.
