Independence Health System Promoting Fresh Foods Locally Grown by Hosting Farmers’ Markets at Hospitals

GREENSBURG, PA, May 21, 2024 … Summer is the season for farm fresh fruits and vegetables. To encourage greater consumption of nutritious produce grown in the region, Independence Health System Westmoreland area is partnering with the Westmoreland County Farm Bureau to host farmers’ markets May through October on a rotating basis at Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland Hospitals.

The markets will be held the last Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning May 29 at Westmoreland Hospital in the administrative parking lot along West Pittsburgh Street.

Products will vary by location, but all sellers are committed to the make/bake/grow model that means everything sold must be locally sourced and produced by the vendor. “Our goal is to connect local consumers with nutritious and local food,” said Kayla Wallace, Farm Bureau Vice President and District 16 Ag Promo Committee representative. Vendors will accept cash, credit, Venmo and Paypal, with payment method varying by vendor.

Future Farmers’ Markets are scheduled for

June 26 – Latrobe Hospital, Lot 10

July 31 – Frick Hospital, Employee Shuttle Lot
Aug. 28 – Westmoreland Hospital, Administrative Parking Lot

Sept. 25 – Latrobe Hospital, Lot 10
