Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary honors high school and college students for their desire to pursue medical professions with scholarship assistance.
This May, the auxiliary awarded five students $2,500 scholarships during their recent luncheon, according to a June 4 email from Westmoreland Health System spokeswoman Robin Jennings.
A repeat scholarship recipient is Elizabeth Dlugos, a graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School, who recently completed her first year of studies at Bucknell University, Lewisburg. She is the daughter of Joseph and Jody Dlugos and is majoring in biology in preparation for the Physician Assistant program, inspired by her mother who is a physician assistant with Independence Health System Frick Family Medicine, Mount Pleasant.
Four 2024 graduates of Hempfield Area School District also received financial support. They are honor student Zhiyi Tang, an Independence Health System Westmoreland Hospital volunteer who plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; honor student Kaylee “Bonk” Good, who intends to study microbiology and pursue a career as an infectious disease physician; Alexandra Martorella, who plans to attend St. Francis University, Loretto, to pursue a career as a physician assistant, and Rachel Husenits, who intends to major in neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh.
