Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society Awards Four Junior Volunteer Scholarships Valued at $8000

The Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society presented four enthusiastic Independence Health Latrobe Hospital Junior Volunteers scholarships in May. Each Junior Volunteer served over 150 hours before they graduated from high school. Since 1984, LAHAS has awarded over $222,000 in scholarships.
The first place, Mary Stynchula Memorial Scholarship $3000 winner is Regan Reilly. Regan volunteered 221 hours at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital while maintaining top grades and competing on the soccer field as team captain. She was active in many school clubs and activities including Student Council and National Honor Society at Greater Latrobe High School.
Regan, the daughter of Sean and Laura Reilly of Greensburg, plans to attend Bowling Green University where she will study to become a nurse-anesthetist and continue her talent on the soccer team.
Earning a $2000 second place LAHAS Junior Volunteer Scholarship is Keira Rauco, who served 165 hours at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital. An excellent student at Greater Latrobe High School, Keira was active in the Key Club and Interact Club and helped at the Westmoreland County Food Bank.
Keira, the daughter of Michael and Rohna Rauco of Greensburg, will attend Penn State University where she’ll pursue studies in accounting.
After volunteering 158 hours at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital, Asia Renee Mills earned a $1500 third place Junior Volunteer Scholarship from LAHAS. At Greater Latrobe High School, Asia was a member of National Honor Society and was an officer in Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and several other clubs and activities.
The daughter of William and Lisa Mills of Latrobe, Asia will enter a five year program at Saint Francis University to become a physician assistant.
Alanna Sweeney served 158 hours at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital and also earned a third place award of $1500. A member of National Honor Society and several other clubs at Greater Latrobe High School, Alanna was also excelled in athletics, and was a All-WPIAL All-Star and Defensive MVP in field hockey.
The daughter of DeAnn Gunderson of Latrobe, Alanna has enrolled in Florida Tech, where she will study aerospace engineering.
