Independence Health System Adds Trio of Cardiologists to Nationally Recognized Heart Program

GREENSBURG, PA, July 29, 2024 … Independence Health System welcomes three new physicians to the team of cardiovascular specialists diagnosing and treating heart disease in the Westmoreland area. Stephen Bowser, MD, is seeing patients in Greensburg, Simon Chough, MD, is augmenting the team in Latrobe, and Fouad Jabbour, MD, also will see patients in Greensburg as well as perform procedures in The Heart Center at Independence Westmoreland Hospital.

They are joining a program that is rated among the region’s and nation’s best for cardiovascular and cardiothoracic care, earning honors from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Heart/Stroke Association, US News and World Report and Healthgrades, among others.

Dr. Bowser comes to Independence Health System from UPMC-McKeesport. A graduate of Gannon University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he completed his internal medicine residency and successive fellowships at UPMC-Shadyside in cardiology and interventional cardiology. Over the course of his career, he has served as the medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories at Monongahela Valley Hospital and UPMC McKeesport, where he most recently was Chief of Cardiology. Dr. Bowser is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine – Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Chough is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and Hahnemann/Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, and fellowship training in cardiology at Shadyside. Like Dr. Bowers, he has held leadership positions at Mon Valley Hospital. Most recently, Dr. Chough was affiliated with the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute in White Oak, and previously served as a peripheral vascular interventional specialist at UPMC Shadyside. Formerly a member of the Peripheral Vascular Disease Advisory Board, Dr. Chough is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine – Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Jabbour joins the team of interventional cardiologists in The Heart Center at Independence Westmoreland Hospital, having just completed back to back fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Allegheny General Hospital. Dr. Jabbour received his medical degree from University of Damascus Faculty of Medicine, Syria. He completed his internal medicine residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, which included an externship in cardiology at Detroit Medical Center/Heart and Vascular Institute in Dearborn, MI.

Dr. Jabbour is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine – Cardiovascular Disease and the National Board of Echocardiography.
